Hello
Local History Group 2 are an active group who provide our members with opportunities to attend talks, walks, and trips of local historical significance, in Southport and its Surrounding Areas.
We aim to hold events at least monthly. We travel by public transport – with occasional coach travel.
Join us in our own discovery of how people, places and events in the past have influenced the present!
Since we began in May 2023 we have visited Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, Kings Gardens, The Hesketh Park Observatory, The Williamson Tunnels, The Atkinson, Sudley House, Museum of Liverpool, and The Hardmans’ House and more.
For 2026, we have already had visits to Southport Town Hall, Southport Masonic Hall and a ‘Blue Badge’ Guided tour of Historic Formby. Our upcoming Spring/Summer programme includes a Visit to Dewlay Cheesemakers & historic Garstang; Guided tour of Liverpool Municipal Hotel Building; Guided tour of Port Sunlight Village and Port Sunlight museum; Sefton Park Palm House; Southport Football Club guided tour and a ‘Lost Picture Palaces of Southport’ guided walk.
We regularly email our members with details of our latest events. We also have a Local History Group table regularly at the monthly Southport U3A meeting at Christchurch where you can meet us.
We are currently recruiting new members - you will be given a warm welcome!
Jo, Jean, and Jessica
