Hello
Local History Group 2 are an active group who provide our members with opportunities to attend talks, walks, and trips of local historical significance, in Southport and its Surrounding Areas.
We aim to hold events at least monthly and we welcome suggestions for future group trips from all our members! We travel by public transport – with occasional coach travel.
Join us in our own discovery of how people, places and events in the past have influenced the present! It's also a great way to meet your fellow members.
Since we began in May 2023 we have visited Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, Kings Gardens, The Hesketh Park Observatory, The Williamson Tunnels, The Atkinson, Sudley House, Museum of Liverpool, and The Hardmans’ House and more.
For 2026, we have already had a visit to Southport Town Hall, tour of Southport Masonic Hall; ‘Blue Badge’ Guided tour of Historic Formby; visit to Dewlay Cheesemakers & historic Garstang; Guided tour of Liverpool Municipal Hotel Building; Guided tour of Port Sunlight Village and Port Sunlight museum; Southport Football Club guided tour and a ‘Lost Picture Palaces of Southport’ guided walk.
Our upcoming Summer/ Autumn 2026 programme includes:Southport - Kings Gardens guided walk;visit to Sefton Park Palm House: Joint 'Summer picnic in the park' with LHG1 - Hesketh Park; visit to Browsholme Hall & Gardens, Bowland and Clitheroe; Guided walking tour of Winckley Square, Preston; World of Wedgewood Pottery tour; a local history Talk event planned for November; Local History Group 2 Christmas Meal.
We regularly email our members with details of our latest events. We also have a Local History Group table regularly at the monthly Southport U3A meeting at Christchurch where you can meet us.
We are currently recruiting new members - you will be given a warm welcome!
