Starting March 14th at 9.00 am - when the weather improves,
A jolly u3a team rub down and paint the railing around Victoria Park. Its actually good fun, only two hours, a nice way to spend time with friends and doing a very satisfying job.
We meet at 9.00 am at the seaward side, the Esplande entrance of Victoria Park by the Flower Show Office - with the big watering can outside. The warehouse at the side holds all the materials we need - paint, wire brushes, paint brushes, gloves and cloths. Working as a group we sand down a few railing then paint them with fast drying black paint. The team last year have already redone the worst part, which was by the entrance where the Ice Skating has been - they have done a fabulous job. It's obviously weather dependant so we have a what's app group to say 'weather perfect - see you there' - or 'not going out in this! Stay home' Its a lovely crowd, jus a few hours and we are making Southport a lovelier place.
So why don't the council paint them? Victoria Park is not Council managed but by the Charity, Victoria Parks, who manage the Southport Flower Show and all the other events at the park. It is none profit making and all Event takings go back into supporting the Park for all to enjoy.
Victoria Park supply all the paint, gloves and brushes.
If you would like to come along join this Group or email me and we will add you to the What App Group for Railings Painting.
Thank you
Chris
