Most meetings are held at the leader’s home in Birkdale, a short walk from the station and the 49/X2 bus stop. On-street parking is available. Occasionally, in the leader’s absence, a meeting may be hosted by another member.
There is no teaching involved and most of us have studied French to a minimum of O-level or similar standard. We use presentations and general conversation as tools to build confidence that we may have lost over half a century or so of little or no use of the language. Our programme is planned six months at a time and we try to alternate serious topics with light-hearted ones. Members take it in turns to lead discussions.
Attendees except the host (who provides tea/coffee and biscuits) each contribute £2 per session to the “kitty” which goes towards the cost of the group's Christmas meal.
This group is not suitable for beginners.
