On Wednesday, 17 September 2025, we have arranged a group visit to Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service Heritage Centre at Aintree, Liverpool.
Here we will learn about the history of fire fighting in Merseyside. It was Liverpool that put the world’s first steam fire engine in service (decades before other cities!). The Heritage Centre has memorabilia, vintage fire engines and equipment.
We will be travelling by train from Southport at approximately 10:00 am (train times to be confirmed nearer to the date of the event).
We will travel via Sandhills station, where the group will alight and transfer over to the Ormskirk train. On leaving this train at Aintree, there is an approximately 10-15 minute walk to the Heritage centre.
COST: £10 pp which includes a donation to the Heritage Centre and tea/coffee, a sandwich and a pastry for lunch after your tour.
